Facel II

The Facel II “type HK2” 4-seat coupe was produced from 1962 through 1964. The styling was further refined, longer, and lower, with large compound curve windshield and rear window and additional instrumentation and a row of levers to control ventilation. While interior space and comfort was sacrificed, the result was stunning – the epitome of the early 1960s GT. The lower body construction, aluminum hood, and trunk lid, reduced weight and along with the sleeker body, top speed increased to 155 mph, retaining the title of world’s fastest 4-seater. The three available engines included:

  • Wedge 383 V8 with 1 carburetor (325 h.p.)
  • Wedge 383 V8 with 2 carburetors (330 h.p.)
  • Wedge 413 V8 with 2 carburetors (380 h.p.)

Transmissions available included a Chrysler Torqueflite 3-speed automatic or a Pont-a-Mousson 4-speed manual. The optional power steering was upgraded to an integrated system, improving driving feel. Aluminum Borrani wire wheels were standard and knock-off disc wheels were often fitted. Optional air conditioning was often fitted, greatly improving comfort in warm weather. The sales price was $12,000 and the estimated number produced is:

  • Prototype 2-seat coupe       1
  • 4-seat coupe                    183*
  • TOTAL                              184
